"Electrombonica"-A music project:
In my ongoing project, "Electromonica", my goal is to create music using a trombone, a mic and sound shaping and editing. No keyboards, guitars, or drum machines-just using my horn in as many ways I can think of, and using the power of sound editing and effects. The result is what you hear in all of the tracks. Read more about it, find links to listen, and see the imaginative Artwork of Joel Adams below.
Here is my latest release, and sixth track, called "Teach In The House". My goal is simply to make music that I would enjoy listening to. My hope is that you will enjoy it too!

The Birth of Electrombonica
It started around September of 2012, when my old electronic equipment started to break-synthesizers, drum machines, D/A interface, and more. I had some ideas running through my head for some new music using electronic gadgets and my horn, guitar, synth drums, and other things, but since my equipment was old and breaking, I thought it would be great to buy a lot of gear to get up and running again. After lengthy discussions with my wife, Chieko, we agreed that it was difficult to justify spending thousands of dollars on equipment with money being so tight. Then, she had this idea: “Why don’t you forget about all of that equipment, and use what you have, your trombone!”
That's what sparked my inspiration for this current project, “Electrombonica".
I decided to see if I could create music using just my trombone and Protools. Using some imagination, I searched for as many different sounds that I could come up with using my horn in some usual and not so usual ways. Next thing I know, music started to emerge by editing and layering sounds using the powerful features of Protools. I found that I could mimic the sound of drums, beats, bass, guitar, synthesizer, and sound effects, all by generating the sounds with my trombone (or parts of it...). The result is what you hear on my first six releases:

I've always been a fan of the artwork of my good friend and amazing trombonist, Joel Adams. I had this idea to feature his drawings along side my tracks as a way to promote him as an artist, as well as combine music and art. We got together over a couple beers, and I played my tracks for him. After a couple weeks or so, we would meet up again, have a few beers and he would unleash his drawing on me. Man, they are cool! Never what I expected, but what I love about them-aside from his obvious gift and extraordinary imagination-was the fact that they were directly influenced by the music he was listening to!
